Allegro Opens Office in Shenzhen to Strengthen Cooperation With Chinese Sellers
Allegro, one of the leading e-commerce platforms in Central and Eastern Europe, is expanding its presence in China by opening an office in Shenzhen and establishing a WFOE (Wholly Foreign-Owned Enterprise) in the country.
According to the company, the move is designed to bring Allegro closer to sellers operating in the Chinese market. Having a local team will allow the platform to better understand its business partners and more directly monitor compliance with Allegro’s marketplace requirements.
Until now, Allegro has handled the verification of international sellers and supported compliance with product-related requirements mainly from its offices in Warsaw, Poznań, and Prague. The company says that managing these activities remotely, across more than 8,000 kilometers and different time zones, naturally comes with limitations.
Allegro describes Shenzhen office as an “embassy”
The new Shenzhen operation is intended to expand Allegro’s existing activities in China and strengthen direct cooperation with sellers.
“By establishing a physical presence in Shenzhen, we are scaling our existing operations and strengthening our ability to work with sellers and enforce our platform standards,” said Marcin Kuśmierz, CEO of Allegro.
He added that the move does not change the company’s European identity, describing the Shenzhen office as an “Allegro embassy” located close to the source of its seller network.
According to Kuśmierz, having a local presence should also reduce Allegro’s reliance on intermediaries and enable the company to build more direct relationships with sellers. The company says this will support fair competition on the marketplace and help maintain its European standards for product safety and consumer protection.
Why Shenzhen?
Shenzhen is widely regarded as one of the world’s major technology and e-commerce hubs. The Chinese metropolis is estimated to have a population of more than 23 million people, making it a significant center for technology companies, manufacturers, and online sellers.
For Allegro, establishing a local operation in Shenzhen represents an effort to strengthen oversight of its international seller base while building closer relationships with businesses operating in one of the world’s most important e-commerce markets.
