Amazon Announces Major Three Hundred Million Euro Logistics Expansion in Germany

Global e-commerce giant Amazon is expanding its logistics footprint in southwestern Germany with a massive site overhaul. The company is committing over 300 million euros to modernize its existing fulfillment center in Pforzheim. The project aims to double the facility’s current workforce by 2029 while introducing advanced robotics and shifting the location’s core operational capabilities.

Strategic Shift Toward High-Density Storage and Advanced Automation

The massive capital injection will transform the operational structure of the Pforzheim location. Previously dedicated to housing medium-sized products like diaper packs and gaming consoles, the renovated warehouse will transition to storing small-to-medium inventory ranging from USB drives to home electronics. Once fully upgraded, the facility will hold approximately 20 million individual inventory items and feature hundreds of autonomous transport robots designed to deliver mobile shelving directly to human workers.

Workforce Doubling and Local Employment Guarantees

Alongside the technological overhaul, Amazon plans a substantial expansion of its local staffing levels over the next three years. The site currently employs over 1,000 workers, a headcount that Amazon expects to scale beyond 2,000 employees by 2029. Company representatives confirmed that all current positions at the Pforzheim fulfillment hub will be maintained throughout the multi-stage renovation process.

Broader Logistics Investment Push Across Major European Markets

The German expansion reflects Amazon’s wider strategy of accelerating infrastructure development across key European territories. The announcement follows a massive 15 billion euro investment campaign in France spanning a three-year period, as well as a 40 billion British pound commitment to the United Kingdom market through 2027. These multi-billion-euro capital deployments signal continued long-term confidence in European digital commerce growth and logistics network density.
