Amazon to introduce per-item billing for FBA removals and disposals

Amazon is changing how sellers are charged for FBA removal and disposal orders, moving from a single consolidated fee to a per-unit billing model.

Shift to per-unit charges changes billing timing

From May 1, removal and disposal fees will be applied to each individual unit at the time it is processed. Previously, sellers were billed once an entire order was completed. Amazon says the update aligns with broader industry practices and offers greater transparency into removal and disposal activity. The company also confirmed that fee rates themselves are not changing, only the timing and structure of billing.

Operational impact for sellers increases complexity

While the pricing remains the same, the new structure could create more administrative work. Instead of receiving one combined charge, sellers may now see hundreds of individual transactions for large orders, making reconciliation more time-consuming. The model has already launched in the US in February 2026 and will roll out to European sellers in May. In the short term, sellers looking to avoid fragmented billing may choose to submit removal orders before the change takes effect, though long-term adjustments to accounting processes will likely be needed.
