Court Order Forces Allegro to Rethink Delivery Display
A court ruling in Poland could reshape how delivery options are presented on one of Central and Eastern Europe’s largest ecommerce platforms. The District Court in Warsaw has issued an interim order requiring Allegro to change the way it shows shipping methods during checkout, particularly for offers covered by its Allegro Smart! subscription service.
More transparency at checkout
Under the court’s decision, Allegro must stop highlighting or preselecting specific delivery methods for Smart! offers. Instead, the platform is required to display the complete list of shipping options provided by each seller, both on its website and in its mobile app. The measure applies for the duration of the legal proceedings.
Consumer foundation behind the case
The order was granted following a request from the Fundacja Forum Konsumentów, a Warsaw-based consumer advocacy group. The foundation now has two weeks to formally file a lawsuit. If it fails to do so, the interim order will automatically expire.
Allegro plans to appeal
Allegro has announced that it will challenge the ruling. The company argues that the decision was made without giving it the opportunity to present its position and that the foundation did not contact Allegro before seeking court intervention.
Platform defends its model
In its statement, Allegro said its current checkout design complies with legal requirements and reflects widely used market standards. The company claims that highlighting certain delivery methods simplifies the purchasing process while still allowing customers to freely choose their preferred option.
Potential implications for ecommerce
While the ruling is only temporary, it could have wider consequences for how ecommerce platforms present delivery services in Poland. If upheld, the decision may push marketplaces toward more neutral and comprehensive displays of shipping options, potentially affecting conversion strategies and user experience across the sector.
