Otto Opens Marketplace to Polish Sellers

Otto is expanding its marketplace to Poland, giving local ecommerce businesses a new opportunity to sell in Germany. The company will launch a pilot program next month with selected Polish sellers, marking the second international expansion of the platform after the Netherlands.

Otto Continues International Marketplace Expansion

The move follows Otto’s recent decision to open its marketplace to Dutch sellers. That rollout began two months ago and was the first step in a broader European expansion strategy that has been in preparation for nearly two years.

Otto says it will continue to carefully vet every merchant before approval. According to the company, strict selection criteria are designed to maintain a high-quality product offering on Otto.de.

Polish Sellers Can Join Without German Registration

Until recently, merchants needed both a German legal entity and a German VAT ID to sell on Otto.de. The marketplace now accepts Dutch entities and will soon support Polish businesses and tax registrations as well, as long as sellers participate in the OSS VAT scheme.

One key requirement remains unchanged. International sellers accepted onto the platform must provide customer service in German.

Otto also charges a monthly base fee of €99.90, regardless of how many products are listed.

Otto Aims to Strengthen Position in Germany

By gradually opening its marketplace to international merchants, Otto wants to expand its product assortment and increase its appeal to German consumers.

The company is currently the third-largest marketplace in Germany by gross merchandise volume, behind Amazon and eBay.

More European Markets to Follow

Otto has already confirmed plans to continue the rollout across Europe in 2026. According to Otto Market, sellers from Austria, France, Spain and Denmark will gain access later next year.

The marketplace conditions also mention return handling requirements in Italy and the Czech Republic. This has sparked speculation that sellers from those countries could also be added in the future.

New Growth Channel for Polish Ecommerce

For Polish ecommerce businesses, Otto’s expansion creates another route for cross-border growth beyond the domestic market, where Allegro remains the dominant platform.

Competition in Poland’s ecommerce sector is intensifying as Amazon plans to invest €5 billion in the country over the coming years. Both Allegro and Amazon already provide Polish sellers with international selling opportunities and Otto is now positioning itself as another option for merchants looking to expand abroad.
